Acupuncture, or acupuncture, is an ancient method of traditional medicine that has been used for more than 2500 years. For centuries, acupuncture has proven its effectiveness in treating various diseases and improving the general condition of patients. Currently, acupuncture is becoming increasingly popular in the world and is becoming a valuable addition to modern medicine. In this article we will look at the history, mechanism of action and prospects of using acupuncture.

History and origin

Acupuncture originated in China during the Bronze Age and has become one of the key elements of traditional Chinese medicine. Ancient Chinese doctors believed in the existence of energy channels, or meridians, through which vital energy flows – "chi". The basic principle of acupuncture is to restore harmony and balance of this energy in the body by stimulating certain points on the body.

The introduction of special needles into acupuncture points (in strict combination and sequence) forces the body to use its internal resources to restore impaired or lost functions. The pronounced healing effect of acupuncture is manifested in the following reactions:

  • the respiratory center is stimulated;
  • hormonal background and metabolic processes are normalized;
  • immunity increases;
  • blood circulation is activated;
  • the permeability of blood vessels and trophic organs and tissues change in a positive direction;
  • the activity of adrenal hormones increases.

The procedure has analgesic, antispasmodic, sedative effect.
